This tournament was an 11 a side format with games being held on the new 3rd generation surface at the impressive 'play football' venue.

With a 50/50 split of Warriors/Wanderers from last season it was going to be a tough day, but all the boys looked relaxed and up for it.

The squad today was: Andrew Butcher, Louis Grisedale, Tom Hajduckzek, Jack Blenkarn, Louie Stone, Leon Walker, Daniel Chettur, James Wilsher, Danny Price, Oliver Firminger, Tom Parks, Brad Reade, Adam Rean a... Read more

AFC Lazio Update:06/06/2010
Lazio Make Great Account at Saltcoats

I was given the pleasure of looking after `AFC Lazio`.

What initially surprised me was the depth of quality that AFC is starting to amass.

I looked at the group of seven boys and felt we would be able to more than compete in our group of six. Now obviously I have had more dealings with Luke and Louie this season, but was delighted with the contribution / effort shown by Dominic Naylor, Tom Parks,Tom Hajduczek (Points you get for scrabble with that name!!) Andrew Butcher and Shaun Barrett.

Our first game was a narrow one nil defeat to Hatfield Peveral with their only shot on target proofing conclusive. Second up was our old rivals Focus Ferrers. They took the lead through the confusion of the ridiculous 'Goalkeeper can only throw it underarm' rule. But we hit back with a well executed goal by Luke. Then only to be undone by the back pass rule, when a harsh penalty was awarded and duly disp... Read more
Focus Tournament Part 2:06/06/2010
AFC Woodham entered 3 teams in this section, selecting AFC Roma, managed by Chris & Tony, AFC Lazio, managed by Brad and AFC Juventus, managed by Rob.

SEMI FINAL HEARTBREAK FOR AFC ROMA

Although a strong team was put out, we were still missing some quality players as they were playing Cricket, nevertheless this team was in with a real chance of success.

A very hard group saw Roma compete with Dummow Rhodes, Maldon Greens, Chelmsford City and Boreham Youth.

The Roma Squad was Louis Grisedale, Jamie Cox, James Wilsher, Jack Blenkarn, Danny Price, Brad Reade and Adam Rean.

The first game saw AFC totally outplay & dominate their tie against Chelmsford City with City hardly getting into our half. The boys had numerous efforts on goal & the football was fantastic, but with the last kick of the game & City’s only attack, a fine finish saw them nick a 1-0 win. That’s football but a great start tactic... Read more
AFC Juventus Update:06/06/2010
AFC Woodham Juventus

On a warm sunny day at Saltcoats Park, AFC Woodham Juventus made their debut at the Focus Ferrers U12 Football tournament. The squad consisting of Nathan, Lewis, Ben, Charlie, Daniel, Greg and Dan strode out at 09:00 for their first game against eventual tournament winners Rayne. Rayne started strongly and scored an early goal. The boys initially struggled with the six a side game but battled hard and showed a lot of commitment but to no avail and lost 1-0.

The team had a half an hour break and tactics were discussed and ice creams were had, as the sun had just broken through the clouds above Radar Hill.

The second game was against Focus Ferrers 2. A tight first half where chances were made at both ends and Focus scored just before half time. The boys battled hard in the second half and Greg had a couple of chances well saved by the Focus keeper. With 2 minutes remaining Lewis was replaced by Ben and all out attack was the s... Read more
Brilliant Wolves Take U9 Honours:05/06/2010
This was the first opportunity for the Wolves to show what they are made of since joining up with AFC Woodham.

The group stage started well with a 2-0 victory over Maldon Town B, with goals from Max and Matthew, followed by a 1-0 win against Heybridge, with Max netting again.

Both games showed the Wolves excellent passing game off allied to good discipline in making sure that they worked extra hard when they did not have the ball to stop the opposition from mounting many worthwhile attacks. Even when the opponents did get through Aston was in top form between the sticks.

The next two group games were somewhat trickier and the lads showed character to come back from behind in each. Firstly against Danbury Juniors they probably had their quietest game of the tournament but battled back with an excellent volley from Max to equalise and get a deserved draw.

Then it was the big ‘local derby’ against Focus Ferrers Kestrels. The boys in the... Read more

Weekend Review:25/04/2010
Another good superstrikers turn out of nearly 20 youngsters started off a busy weekend at Meadowbank Park, with our new team AFC Woodham Wolves training on the main pitch.

Away from Meadowbank, Saturday saw the Wanderers defeated as they travelled to 2nd placed Witham Nomads. A poor 10 minutes in the first half saw the boys 4-0 down, but a fine second half saw the boys take control and score 2 goals and the game ended 4-2.
Sunday saw the Warriors engage in a fine and entertaining tussle with rivals Valley Greeen Eagles at Meadowbank Park.

The Warriors played out a superb first half to rally at 2-0 up, but the Eagles fought back to even things up at 2-2. The game was entertaining and a draw was a fair result.

The Wanderers locked horns with Witham Nomads for the second time in as many days and a superb performance saw the boys go 3-0 up at half time. Witham pegged the Wanderers back to 3-2, but the green army took control of the latter stage... Read more

Weekend Review:15/03/2010
AFC Woodham Warriors enjoyed a vital point against an organised Wilvale team and with three games in hand a good string of results could see the Warriors into the top 4.

This morning Chris & Rob inspected the pitch and 1/3 of the pitch was covered in surface water that had turned to sheet ice.

Although the 11.30am kick off was to give the pitch time to thaw out, the water produced from the thaw would only make matters worse for the players and the pitch itself.

This week saw Chris visit the Spice of Asia, regarding our Curry Afternoon event. With the club offering the restuarant the chance to host 100 guests on what would be a quiet afternoon generally, the restuarant declined the chance of hosting this event - surprising considering the current economic climate.

The Wanderers ground out a point in a very entertaining 0-0 draw with Galleywood Youth Falcons. The boys battled well, played some good football and were unlucky not to win.

The pitch held up for both games, but a lot of work is needed to get the surface ready again for the next matches.

Man of the match this week was Jack Blenkarn for a good solid defensive display for the Warriors and Andrew Butcher for a truly masterful display in the Wanderers goal.
Matchday Car Parking:25/01/2010

Meadowbank Park Pitch Struggling31/01/2009
After a 9:30am pitch inspection at Meadowbank, the pitch was still under water in places, in particular the Kennell End part of the ground where it is very wet and spongy.

Chairman Chris Firminger, Coach Rob Jones and AFC's Referee Steve Woollvin inspected the pitch and at present it is not playable. AFC will carry out a further pitch inspection at 4:00pm and a decsion will be made regarding tomorrows fixtures.

With another dry forecast and a strong wind could see the pitch improve but both the Warriors and Wandereers games look doubtful.

We will keep you posted on the website.
