Focus Tournament Part 2:

06/06/2010

AFC Woodham entered 3 teams in this section, selecting AFC Roma, managed by Chris & Tony, AFC Lazio, managed by Brad and AFC Juventus, managed by Rob.

SEMI FINAL HEARTBREAK FOR AFC ROMA

Although a strong team was put out, we were still missing some quality players as they were playing Cricket, nevertheless this team was in with a real chance of success.

A very hard group saw Roma compete with Dummow Rhodes, Maldon Greens, Chelmsford City and Boreham Youth.

The Roma Squad was Louis Grisedale, Jamie Cox, James Wilsher, Jack Blenkarn, Danny Price, Brad Reade and Adam Rean.

The first game saw AFC totally outplay & dominate their tie against Chelmsford City with City hardly getting into our half. The boys had numerous efforts on goal & the football was fantastic, but with the last kick of the game & City’s only attack, a fine finish saw them nick a 1-0 win. That’s football but a great start tactically.

Focus Ferrers were up next and a professional display saw a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Another win 2-0 against Maldon set up a mouth watering tie against favourites Dunmow Rhodes. AFC again looked professional in approach and impressive attacks were present both ends of the pitch. In a tight game 0-0 was the end result.

The last game saw AFC Roma needing to avoid defeat to reach the Semi Finals against Boreham Village Youth.

AFC again played very well, putting Boreham under constant pressure throughout with a fine display of pass and move football, knowing Boreham were a big strong side.

Good tactical changes saw AFC Roma score the only second half goal, and a deserved impressive entry to the Semi Finals.

AFC Roma again faced a Focus Ferrers side in the semi’s, an now doubt this game created a lot of interest for obvious reasons. AFC started the game steady and conceded only their second goal of the day early on, but as the game went on the boys pressed and pressed and were soon on top and a deserved equaliser came. We were confident it was a matter of time before the second would come, but it wasn’t to be and after 5 minutes of golden goal extra time the game went to penalties.

Good sportsmanship between both clubs after a hard fought game saw both sets of player’s link up in the centre circle.

AFC smashed their first penalty against the post and after that all the players scored and Focus won the lottery 5-4 on penalties and the AFC Roma’s path to the final was thwarted.

Well done to the Roma Squad, impressive football today even with a few key players missing.
