AFC Woodham certainly put the club on the map as the Club took part in a fine tournament held in Southend today.
The U12 side were playing in a group of five and needed to play well to progress through.
This tournament was an 11 a side format with games being held on the new 3rd generation surface at the impressive 'play football' venue.
With the club putting in an u13 side into the Southend & District youth Sunday league we were grouped with a very high standard of teams, being A division Dark Lane Dynamos & Catholic Minors, along with B division teams, Ahingdon Youth and Essex Royals.
With a 50/50 split of Warriors/Wanderers from last season it was going to be a tough day, but all the boys looked relaxed and up for it.
The squad today was: Andrew Butcher, Louis Grisedale, Tom Hajduckzek, Jack Blenkarn, Louie Stone, Leon Walker, Daniel Chettur, James Wilsher, Danny Price, Oliver Firminger, Tom Parks, Brad Reade, Adam Rean and Jamie Cox.
Our First game was a tough one, but the boys played a great passing game against Dark Lane Dynamos and won it 1-0 with a goal from James Wilsher. A great start.
Next up were Essex Royals and the boys secured a comfortable 2-0 win against the Wickfod Outfit wit 2 goals from Jamie Cox.
Catholic Minors were next up, probably the best team the boys have played against for a long long time and although we battled well we were undone by 2 well worked goals from a quality outfit.
Our last group game saw the boys again play a fine pass and move game & a 1-0 win was secured thanks to another Cox goal.
We qualified for the Semi Finals with the second best record of the day P 4 W 3 D 0 L1 and we really were the surprise package of the tournament.
The semi final saw us playing the hosts Dark Lane Dynamos and this time it was not to be as Dynamos gained revenge, this time opting to undo AFC with an aerial attack and 3 goals from headers via crosses secured a deserved victory for the hosts, but AFC battled hard and no doubt the team played very well, met new friends and clubs and AFC look to be making a name for themselves in the Southend Area.
Well done to all the boys who took part - great performances and a lot of positives for Chris, Lee and tony to take back to the training ground.
