AFC Ease to Victory Pt 1
AFC TURN ON THE STYLE IN ENTERTAINING DERBY.
Result From Meadowbank Park
AFC WOODHAM 5-3 RUNWELL HOSPITAL
A lovely day greeted good friends Runwell Hospital to Meadowbank Park, along with a good support for both teams.
This game featured 10 of Wanderers players last season, with 5 Warriors players adding to the squad.
Again the Meadowbank turf looked in great shape and the club's huge st georges flag flew proudly over the ACO Scaffolding main stand.
A 4:4:2 formation saw Andrew Butcher in goal, Tom Hajduczek at right back with a cetre back pairing of Dominic Naylor & Luke Harrop with Jamie Hatcher at left back.
Midfield saw to very wide wingers - Adam Rean on the right and Tom Parks on the left with central attacking midfield of Tom Whitelock & Nathan Reavell.
Up front today was James Wilsher and Luis Cooke.
Subs were Oliver Firminger, Jamie Cox, Daniel Chettur and Lewis Jones.
AFC started Very strong with instructions to win the ball early and pump balls out wide to Adam Rean & Tom Parks on the wings. This was clearly apparent and AFC's crisp passing saw both wingers swing balls into the box and the team was looking settled.
Good build up play involving Tom W and Adam Rean saw AFC squander 2 clear cut 1 on 1 chances with Runwell on the back foot and unable to get out of their half.
We always new Runwell would rely on a long ball with a direct approach and the Visitors got back into the game and with their first strike on goal saw Andrew Butcher beaten and go 1-0 up with a wel taken goal.
AFC still needed to be composed and relaxed but the boys looked anxious and poor midfield play saw our defence put under unneccesary pressure, and give a free kick away on the edge of the box.
From the kick Runwell doubled their lead as Andrew was unable to hold on to a fingertip first save, and the ball found its way into the net.
With players playing out of position and us experimenting, we knew we could turn things around as we had so much possesion. 2 attacks from Runwell saw 2 goals and this was dissapointing, but with instuctions to do the same the boys plugged away and were rewarded a penalty 5 minutes later and Tom Whitelock hit a low drive into the corner of the net to peg a goal back.
Jamie Cox was introduced, replacing Luis Cooke and immediately AFC upped the tempo with both Dominic & Luke in cetral defence positions coming into the game and feeding fine balls from the back line out to midfield.
Again Rean was involved in a fine piece of individual brilliance along with good support from James Wilsher to whip in a fine low cross in which Tom Parks met from a run outside the box to score against his former club, sending the 'Parksie Barmy Army' into a frenzy in the upper tier of the ACO Scaffolfding Meadowbank Stand.
AFC Continued to push up to half time and Steve 'Leggy Woollvin blew for half time.
HT : AFC WOODHAM 2-2 RUNWELL HOSPITAL.
As the boys munched on Julias Juicy Oranges, all eyes turned to the Nusery End Cop where the Club were preparing for the Superstrikers fun day. With bouncy castles present our resident vocal secretary Shaven Daven Rean decided to put on a show for the 77 attendance at Meadowbank Park. Dave peeled down to his ill fitting 1970's Bukta shorts and Gola tight white vest and embarked on turning on the 2 bouncy castles. With Both castles swaying majestically, Dave wrapped a st Georges flag rouind himself and bounced his gazelle like frame from castle to castle and a massive Meadowbank Roar erupted after each bounce. With the bounces getting higher and higher the slight breeze got hold of his 'Compact' frame and spun our shaven hero into a triple somersault. The crowd went quiet as Dave wrestled with the elements to get his act back on track. A last minute flick with his new hip saw dave return to earth on 2 feet whilst singing his own version of 'Let me entertain you! '.
The whole arena looked on in disbelief until rudely interupted by Steve Woollvins whistle to start the second half.
Oliver Firminger entered the fray replacing Tom Parks, and settled into the game quickly.
AFC used all areas of the pitch today and at the back, Tom Hajduczek was enjoying another solid game, venturing up front with Nathan covering well. Runwell started the half well, but Luke Harrop began to enjoy his unusual role of centre back winning more headers and delivering no nonsense passes to the midfield.
AFC took the lead for the first time when Jamie Cox was put through to score a well taken goal and now in the lead the boys never looked back.
Minutes later, Daniel Chettur & Lewis Jones entered the pitch with James Wilsher & Luke Harrop being replaced.
Dan played a good game tucked behind Jamie up front and with a little more time on the ball than usual, put his footballing brain to good use, playing through to Adam, Jamie and Tom Whitelock.
The pressure saw AFC increase their lead again good work by Adam saw Jamie clock up a brace with good finishing again - a real confidence booster for Mr Cox.
With tired bodies out there in the heat Luke was re intoduced as a Striker!!!! and 3 seconds into his new role popped up to score from close range, much to the delight and chuckling from the home faithful.
At 5-3 the game somewhat petered out but a final consolation goal fell to Runwell, but the Day belonged to AFC and with missed chances the score could have been double figures.
An enjoyable relaxed day today, some fine individual performances and some surprisingly good performances coming from boys playing in new positions.
FINAL SCORE : AFC WOODHAM 5-3 RUNWELL HOSPITAL

Following heavy overnight rain, an 11:00am pitch inspection saw today’s game against Meadow Youth Lions given the go ahead. With Andrew back in goal, the Wanderers were missing Oliver and Jamie (Game)
Squad: Goalkeeper: Andrew Butcher Defence: Leon Walker, Dominic Naylor, and Tom Hadjuczek. Midfield: Lewis Jones, Nathan Revell, Daniel Chettur (Capt), Jamie Hatcher and Matthew Olsen. Strikers: Tom Parks and Charlie Demmel. Substitutes Ben Beaumont.
Meadow Youth won the toss and decided to kick off with the wind in favour, and extremely difficult first half saw Meadow Youth Lions push the Wanderers on the back foot, the midfield of Daniel, Lewis, Jamie, Nathan and Matthew were having a difficult time trying to get the ball, this was putting pressure on the Wanderers defence of Leon, Tom (Hadjuczek) and Dominic, when called upon Andrew in the Wanderers goal was forced into a couple of saves. However it was not long before Meadow Youth took the lead, this was followed by a further two goals in quick succession, the Wanderers were going to need to get stuck in if they were going to get anything out of this game. Andy blows for half time, the come off and get a reminder of what they need to do from Chris and Rob.
HT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 3 Meadow Youth Lions
The second half gets underway and it is clear to see that the boys had taken onboard the comments at half time, and were now closing down in midfield, which was helping Tom (Parks) and Charlie to get more into the game, it was not long before they were rewarded for their efforts when Tom (Parks) follows up a shot and pokes the ball into the back of net to score. All the boys were playing much better and were enjoying much more of the ball, another goal for the Wanderers when Charlie scores following good build up play in midfield. Meadow Youth were creating chances of their own, but good defending from Tom (Hadjuczek), Leon and Dominic helped by the ever improving Andrew in goal helped keep the boys in the game. Good pressure from Daniel, Nathan, Lewis, Jamie and Matthew saw the boys pushing forward with confidence, a change for the Wanderers saw Ben replace Matthew. With ten minutes left the Wanderers continued to push forward and great strike from Tom (Parks) gets the Wanderers a well deserved equaliser. The boys continued to press forward, but had to be careful at the back to insure that their hard work to get back in the game was not in vein, Andy brings the game to an end.
FT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 3 – 3 Meadow Youth Lions
Another game of two halves for the boys today, it was great to see that they took on board the comments made at half time following a disappointing first half, and produced a great second half performance against a team who can make it difficult for you to play passing football. But the boys fought hard and got a well deserved draw.

Witham get the game underway, and are soon on the back foot as the Wanderers started to press forward in numbers, and were unlucky not to take the lead when Tom (Parks) shot just goes wide, another Wanderers attack sees a great move involving Nathan, Charlie, Matthew ending with the ball flashing across Witham’s goal looking for a touch. Witham get into the game and press forward themselves, and almost took the lead, but for some good goalkeeping from Daniel supported by Leon in defence. The Wanderers continued to push forward and soon took the lead, when Tom (Parks) shot was deflected into the net, the boys were now playing some really good football, and were rewarded with a second when Jamie’s (Game) shot finds the back of the net, another attack from the Wanderers involving Jamie (Hatcher) Charlie, Nathan, and Lewis, is rewarded with a third goal scored by Tom (Parks). HT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 3 – 0 Witham Nomads
As with most of the Wanderers games this season, it was going to be game of two halves, as Witham changed their formation and pushed forward, as they did they were the ball over the top trying to catch out the last defender, for a while the defence were able to deal with but it was not long before Witham pulled a goal back. Not to put off the Wanderers pressed forward looking to score another goal that would settle this match, a change see Oliver replace Jamie (Game), more good play from the Wanderers sees almost score through Tom (Parks), Oliver settled into the game quickly and put a couple of good passes through to both Tom (Parks) and Charlie. In midfield Lewis and Nathan were battling hard supported by both Jamie (Hatcher) and Matthew. Witham scored another goal making it a bit of nervous end to the game, another change sees Ben replace Matthew, the Wanderers were unlucky not to score again, but they also defended well to see the game out and get a well deserved victory.
FT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 3 – 2 Witham Nomads
This was the best possibly the best all round team performance of the season, rewarded with a victory against second placed Witham Nomads, who had only lost 4 games this season to Broomfield and Meadow Youth, which shows how well the boys played. It is also great to see the team spirit that has developed over the season and how hard they are all working for each other.

HT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 1 – 0 Witham Nomads

The midfield was now being pushed back, and having to help defend, as Witham put them under more pressure. A counter attack saw Tom (Parks) run onto a pass from Daniel, and both of Toms (Parks) attempts on goal were saved well by the keeper, Jamie was trying to support both Tom (Parks) and Charlie, Witham were soon level after being awarded a free kick just outside the box, and the Witham hit the ball over the wall and into the top left corner, giving Andrew no chance, a change for the Wanderers saw Oliver replace Matthew. The game seemed to be turning in Witham’s favour and a misjudgment by Andrew allowed Witham to take the lead, The Wanderers were still working hard for each other and were themselves awarded a free kick on the edge of the Witham area, Tom (Parks) was unlucky not to score as he gets the ball over the wall and hits bar, with the game coming to an end the Wanderers were unlucky to concede two further goals giving a three goal. The final whistle goes, the boys come off disappointed.
FT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 1 – 4 Witham Nomads
This was certainly a game of two halves, and in the first half the boys were unlucky not to have scored more than the single goal, a fantastic goal from Lewis to give the boys the lead, however despite the scoreline which did not seem fair, all of the Wanderers showed great attitude and commitment, but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal if we are going to kill off games once we take the lead.

The Wanderers were a full strength for today’s trip to Meadow Youth Lions. Today’s game was certainly a game of two halves, in the first the Wanderers seemed to struggle to get going, the new formation was looking to build on yesterday’s efforts, however the boys were soon on the back foot, and it was not long before Meadow Youth scored their first goal. Tom (Hadjuczek) Dominic and Leon were having to work hard as the Meadow Youth kept pushing, Andrew managed to collect a couple of loose balls in his area, the Wanderers midfield were being pegged back and struggling to get tackles in, that said the next period of play saw Daniel play a pass that split the defence allowing Tom (Parks) a run on goal and lob the ball over the Lions keeper to score the Wanderers equaliser, minutes later Nathan doubled the Wanderers lead when Meadow youth failed to clear the ball, and Nathan drilled a shot into the bottom corner. Oliver put a couple of passed though to Tom (Parks), but the Meadow Youth defence were making it difficult for Tom to get a run on goal. Nathan and Lewis covering a lot of ground, and Charlie was trying to link up with Ben and Daniel in midfield. 2 or 3 good saves by Andrew helped keep the Wanderers in front. The half-time whistle blew and the Wanderers came in to a surprising 1-2 lead.
HT: Meadow Youth Lions 1 – 2 AFC Woodham Wanderers
As the second half kicked off, The Wanderers made a couple of changes with Jamie and Matthew replacing Oliver and Ben. The message to the boys was to try and close down in midfield, and push up the field to relieve the pressure being put on the defence, minutes into the half Meadow Youth Lions scored to bring them level, it was not long before they scored their 3rd to put them in the lead. The Wanderers were still trying to push forward, but the Meadow Youth Lions defence was holding firm. The boys won a number of throw-ins that were taken by Daniel each time gaining more ground. Meadow Youth Lions now had the upper hand, and were now pushing forward more frequently and soon scored their 4th goal. Jamie and Matthew were making every effort to get into the game, and were seeing a bit of the ball. Andrew in the Wanderers goal made another couple of goods saves, as well as a clean catch from a cross. An own goal gave Meadow Youth Lions their 5th and final goal of the game. The Wanderers still tried to push forward but the Meadow Youth defence stood firm. The final whistle goes and a disappointed Wanderers leave the pitch.

Squad: Goalkeeper: Andrew Butcher Defence: Leon Walker, Dominic Naylor, and Tom Hadjuczek. Midfield: Charlie Demmel, Nathan Reavel Daniel Chettur (Capt), Ben Beaumont, Oliver Firminger. Strikers: Tom Parks. Substitutes, Jamie Hatcher and Matthew Olsen
It’s amazing how two days and two matches can be so different, but Meadow Youth Lions made it really difficult for the Wanderers today, but the lack of tackling in defence and midfield made it easier for Meadow Youth Lions, highlights today was the build up play for Tom (Parks) goal, and Tom’s finish, in goal Andrews awareness of his area and handling is improving all the time, and a number a good saves helped keep the Wanderers in the game in the first half, and Tom (Hadjuczek) who put in another solid performance in defence.
Hopefully the boys can enjoy the Easter break, and get back to winning ways soon.

With 10 minutes left another change was made for the Wanderers with Daniel returning to the game for Charlie. The boys were really pushing forward, and a through from Daniel finds Tom (Parks) who takes the ball past the keeper to score a well deserved goal. The goal seemed to give the boys a lift and belief that maybe they could get something from this game. Good work from Tom (Parks) sees him cross the ball which arrives at Daniels feet for him to score, but it goes just wide of the post. Matthew and Jamie helped to create a couple chances, Nathan was getting his tackles in, in midfield. And the defence were holding firm. The Wanderers had a couple of other chances at the end of the game, but could not get the equaliser they need, the final whistle goes to end the game.

Fantastic effort at the end of the game, had the boys shown the same effort and belief from the start maybe the result would have been different. A good goal from Tom Parks was the highlight for the Wanderers today.

With Andrew out for another week, Daniel continued in goal, the Wanderers were dealt a blow when Leon had to go home unwell, leaving the Wanderers were down to the bare bones for today’s game.
Galleywood Youth Falcons kick off the first half, and were soon on the attack; the Wanderers spent a lot of the first half chasing the ball and winning the ball in midfield like last weeks, and were made to pay when Galleywood scored their first goal. Their second came soon after when they were awarded a penalty, Daniel in the Wanderers goal guesses the right way and got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out. The boys were two goals, and needed to get into the game, They had a number of chances with Oliver playing some neat passes through to Tom (Parks) who had a number of one on ones only to be denied by the keeper, Matthew was unlucky to see a shot push onto the bar, the rebound seemed to roll along the line waiting for it to be tapped in, but Galleywood kept the ball out.
The defence of Tom (Hadjuczek), Dominic, Lewis and Jamie Hatcher who was making his home debut, were being put under pressure, but managed to keep the score down to 2-0 at the half-time break.
HT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 2 Galleywood Youth Falcons
The Wanderers set about the second half more positive and soon created a number of chances that were saved by the Galleywood keeper, a couple of well taken corners by Lewis went across the box but could not be converted, The Wanderers were pushing forward to try and get a goal, they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, which was taken by Tom (Parks) who rifled his shot into the top corner, to give the Wanderers a chance of getting back into the match, however the next 2 attacks by Galleywood saw them double their goal tally and put the game beyond the Wanderers, Nathan, Charlie and Matthew had enjoyed a better half, Oliver continued supplying goods balls for Tom (Parks), but as the final whistled went the final result seemed a bit harsh

A disappointing game today following last week success, after giving away 2 early goals, and not taking our chances, made it difficult to get anything out of today’s game, a much better 2nd half gave us a fighting chance until Galleywood scored 2 late goals.

Following another break this season due the bad weather the Wanderers were looking to bouce back from the defeat in the last game to Broomfield.
With Andrew still out injured, Daniel continued in goal, the Wanderers were at full strength with the benefit of a substitute today.
Galleywood Youth Falcons kick off the first half, and look to push forward, but the Wanderers were working well together, getting stuck into tackles and playing some neat football, it was not long before the Wanderers were putting pressure on the Falcons goal. Tom (Parks) and Oliver were linking up well and causing problems for the Falcons defence. The Wanderers midfield of Charlie, Jamie, Matthew and Nathan were enjoying a good spell of play with neat passes and strong tackles, taking the pressure off the defence of Tom (Hadjuczek), Leon, Dominic and Lewis, with Daniel in the Wanderers not having a lot to do.
The passage of play sees Charlie play a pass through Tom (Parks) who controls the ball well, and runs on to score, giving the Wanderers a well deserved lead. Nathan was having a battle with the Falcons No10, and was winning this particular battle in midfield. Matthew was enjoying playing out wide and was having success and getting to line on a number of occasions. Jamie settled in well in his role on the lefthand side. The whistle goes for half time.
HT: Galleywood Youth Falcons 0 – 1 AFC Woodham Wanderers
The Wanderer get the second half underway, looking to continue the form of the first half, it was not long before the boys were pushing forward, with Tom (Parks) holding the ball up well supported by Charlie and Nathan to feed passes through to Jamie and Matthew on either side. Jamie scores his first goal for the Wanderers following a run into the box and then shooting low into the corner, giving the Wanderers a 2 – 0 lead. A change sees Ben replace Oliver, the defence were dealing with anything that the Falcons were throwing at them. The next goal came from the ball being fed to Matthew who carried the ball into the area, and shooting into the top corner, to score a well deserved goal. Further goals could have been scored with Matthew being the closet with a shot that hit the cross bar. The Falcons did have a chance to shoot on target after being awarded a free kick, however after having nearly nothing to do for the whole game, Daniel remained alert and made a fine save. The final whistle goes and the Wanderers get a well deserved win.

A great result for the boys bearing in mind that they have lost or drawn to Galleywood on three previous occasions this season, every player played their part playing good football, showing great commitment and good team work. It was very difficult for Chris and Rob to select today’s man of the match, as there were a number of worthy contenders.

The Wanderers were looking to back on track following last weeks disappointing display, unfortunately this was not going to be any easier, as they were playing Broomfield Youth who were unbeaten so far this season in both the League and League Cup.
With Andrew not available for up to 6 six weeks, Daniel took over the goalkeeping duties, again the Wanderers were down to the bare bones today with no substitutes available.
The Wanderers get the first half underway, both teams struggle to play football with the ball pinging backwards and forwards between the teams, however its not long before Daniel in the Wanderers goal is called into action to make a save. The Wanderers defence of Leon, Dominic, Lewis and Tom (Hadjuzcek) were working hard to keep Broomfield Out, The next passage of play sees a neat passing move from Broomfield rewarded with a well taken goal from the edge of the box into the top corner, Daniel gets a hand to it, but was unable to keep it out.
The Boys were going to have to work really hard to get anything out of the game, in midfield Nathan was covering nearly every area of the pitch, supported by Matthew, Tom (Parks) and Charlie, upfront Oliver was trying to get into space for the midfield to pass into. A mistake in defence allows Broomfield to score their second goal. The Wanderers push forward with Matthew having a great shot well saved by the Broomfield keeper. However the next attack sees Broomfield score another well taken goal to give them a 3 – 0 lead going into halftime. Steve blow the half time whistle, the boys come off for refreshments and team talk.
HT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 3 Broomfield Youth
Broomfield get the second half underway, looking to continue where they left off in the first, it is not long before they are putting the Wanderers midfield and defence under pressure, their pressure soon pays off as they score their forth and fifth goals. In midfield Nathan was still full of energy chasing everything, Tom (Parks) was trying to take the ball down the line and cross it in, they force a couple of corners, Charlie, Matthew and Ben were trying to get into forward positions to support Oliver playing the lone striker role, but Broomfield break quickly and have a one-on-one against Daniel in the Wanderers goal who initially makes a good save, only to see the rebound and fall to the strikers feet allowing him to score Broomfield’s sixth goal. The boys were trying to work hard, but were up against a very good team in Broomfield Youth. The next passage of play sees Broomfield string 5 or 6 passes together, the final one finding their striker out wide who scores another well taken goal. The final whistle goes.

Squad: Goalkeeper: Daniel Chettur (Capt) Defence: Leon Walker, Dominic Naylor, Lewis Jones and Tom Hadjuczek. Midfield: Nathan Reavel, Matthew Olsen, Charlie Demmel, Tom Parks and Ben Beaumont Strikers: Oliver Firminger.
The final result seemed a bit harsh, but all credit to Broomfield Youth, four of their goals were probably as good a goals as you will see in any league of this age group, It is obviously more difficult with no subs and Andrew out of action, Chris and Rob are having to change things around match by match and get the best of the boys on the pitch.

The Wanderers along with their supporters arrived at St John Paynes School, looking forward to taking on Meadow Youth Lions, following a long wait to see if the home team were going to turn up for the 12:30 kick off, we found that Meadow Youth Lions had changed their venue. The squad made the short journey to the new ground. The kick off was delayed until 1:00 to allow the Wanderers a short warm up period.
With Andrew not available today through injury, Nathan took over the goalkeeping duties, with no substitutes today it was going to hard game for the boys.
Meadow Youth got the first half underway, and from the start you could see that they were up for this game, closing down quickly, not giving any of the Wanderers players time on the ball. The Wanderers defence was soon under pressure, but Leon, Dominic, Lewis and Tom (Hadjuczek) seem to be holding out, Nathan in the Wanderers was assured in what he had to deal with, it was hard for the Wanderers midfield of Daniel, Ben, Matthew & Charlie to get of the ball and pass to allow Tom (Parks) or Oliver to get forward. Halfway through the first half the Meadow pressure paid off and they scored their first goal, disappointing but had been coming.
With the Wanderers struggling to get into the game, Meadow Youth scored a second. Chris and Rob were working hard to get the boys to start playing football, as the half drew to close the Wanderers were starting to put a bit of pressure on but were leaving themselves too much to do, due to being pushed back all the time, the referee blows for halftime, The Wanderers were lucky to only 2-0 down, but at this score still in the game.
HT: Meadow Youth Lions 2 – 0 AFC Woodham Wanderers
2nd Half: The Wanderers get the second half underway kicking uphill, the boys were quickly on the attack, another chance goes by as Tom (Parks) misses, the next attack sees Oliver pass the ball to Tom (Parks) who took the ball out wide and towards goal and crossed the ball for Harry to tap for the third goal.
Goal! Springfield Youth 1 – 3 AFC Woodham Wanderers
As Springfield restarted the weather was taking a turn for the worse, it started to rain, and the wind picked up making it difficult for both teams, but it seemed to be Springfield who were dealing with the change better, a change for the Wanderers saw Ben coming on for Oliver, the Wanderers had another couple of attacks but did not lead to anything, the boys were now having to dig and work really hard, another change saw Jamie come on for Matthew, both teams were now attacking Springfield had a couple of shots that forced Andrew into a couple of good saves, The next attack saw Springfield score their second goal.
Goal! Springfield Youth 2 – 3 AFC Woodham Wanderers
At the restart it was clear the weather was now getting worse, the players were now having to play in hail stones making increasingly difficult, the Wanderers defence were working with Lewis and Dominic coping well in the middle supported by both Leon and Tom (Hadjuczek), game was now proving difficult for the Wanderers and with Dominic was feeling unwell and Harry having to come off due to illness. Springfield set up another attack and scored their third goal and equaliser.
Goal! Springfield Youth 3 – 3 AFC Woodham Wanderers
From the restart the Wanderers were trying to push forward, bit the conditions made if difficult to play football, it was great to see a number of the Wanderers players roll up their sleeves and dig deep and keep trying to play to the end. However the final whistle goes ending the game in what turned out to be a hard fought draw following a number of missed chances.
FT: Springfield Youth 3 – 3 AFC Woodham Wanderers
Another game where missed chances end up costing the Wanderers a win, but the boys still unbeaten in 3 which is great, a number of impressive displays in what were terrible conditions in the second half.
MoM: Daniel Chettur
Following the Halftime team talk from both Chris and Rob, the boys run out and get the second half underway, from the kickoff the Wanderers were looking to make amends for the first half performance, with Tom (Parks) now seeing more of the ball the Wanderers were beginning to push forward, the Wanderers forced a couple of quick corners, from the second corner the ball is loose in the area, Oliver was unlucky to get a shot in, the ball breaks to Tom (Parks) who puts the ball in the back of the net. With Meadow Youth having the benefit of substitutes they were able to introduce players and change things. Meadow Youth made the best from the changes and soon scored their third goal. The Wanderers kept going and were soon rewarded with a second goal following neat play between Daniel, Oliver and Tom (Parks) who put in a great pass to allow Charlie to run on and score a good goal, to keep the Wanderers in the game.
With the game at 3-2 and the Wanderers now beginning to play football, the next goal was going to be crucial, Tom (Hadjuczek) and Leon were have good games supported by Dominic and Lewis in the centre of the defence. Matthew, Daniel, Oliver and Ben were all starting to get into the game, further chances fell to Tom (Parks). The next break sees Meadow Youth push forward an error in the Wanderers defence allow Meadow Youth to score their fourth and what was to be the winner, the final whistle goes on a disappointing game for the Wanderers.

Squad: Goalkeeper: Nathan Reavell Defence: Leon Walker, Dominic Naylor, Lewis Jones and Tom Hadjuczek. Midfield: Daniel Chettur (Capt), Matthew Olsen, Charlie Demmel and Ben Beaumont Strikers: Oliver Firminger & Tom Parks. (No Subs)
Not a great day for the Wanderers, they did not seem to have the normal Wanderers spirit that helps them in games, on a positive note a good game in goal today from Nathan who was covering for the injured Andrew Butcher, who still turned up on a cold day to cheer on his team mates. Having no substitutes made it difficult to change things during the game, but in the second half the boys did start to play better, but were left with too much to do.

Whippets Shine at Jam Packed Meadowbank:
AFC WOODHAM WHIPPETS 6 - 4 ASHINGDON YOUTH
Weather: Sunny & Glorious
Pitch: Heavy
Attendance: 112
Ref: Supplied by Ashingdon
Report by: Chris Firminger
The Whippets gained their first win in a real corker of a match at an absolute jam packed Meadowbank Park.
With the pitched passed fit to play after a 7.30 pitch inspection, the sun emerged mid morning and by 1.00pm the ground was basked in glorious winter sun.
A huge crowd was expected and eager fans arrived early to gain their best position in the Bankside Family Enclosure, and the hoards just kept on flocking in and by kick off time the magic hundred had passed through the turnstiles to witness the Whippets first ever game, leaving AFC Groundsman, Mike Carter no choice but to put the 'House Full' signs up.
All the Whippets squad were involved today and the match consisted of 4 x 10 minute spells.
Manager Scott Jones warmed the boys up and delivered them instructions for the match.
The players entered the arena and applauded all 4 sides of the ground as the crowd roared with excitement. After a brief photo session the boys were ready and Captian Thomas Cannon shook hands with the Ashingdon Captain and won the toss and elected to kick off.
From the kick off Ethan Firminger cleverly darted his way into the Ashingdon penalty area and had a shot blocked - an early warning of what was to come. Joe Blanche settled in well and embarked on a series of mazy runs as the whippets looked on top form in the early stages.Good build up play from Samuel Jones & Harrison Dean saw Joe Blanche through on goal and deliver a potent shot from outside the box and into the back of the net to put the whippets 1-0 up after 6 minutes, sending the 112 green army faithful wild on the terraces.
Just as the fans were sitting back down in their seats, AFC doubled their lead when a long ball from Callum Jones found George 'Foxy' Fox and a sly pass through found Harrison Dean who twisted and turned his way through the Blues defence and ram home a 4 yard power drive to put the Whippets in control 2-0, and the impressive 17 man conga on the touchlines started by Colin Aley began.
Changes were made as a new arrival of whippets ran on to continue. Ashingdon came into the game more and looked very dangerous on the break but solid no nonsense defending from William Freeman an Stephen Hey kept the Blues at bay.
The whippets worked hard in the midfield as the game levelled out and Ethan Grimwood was enjoying his midfield roll, getting stuck in winning important balls with his industrious counterpart Freddie Sadler. The Whippets again looked very dangerous and lively with our princess Abigail Woolvin created havoc up fron for the blues defence with a fine attacking performance. Joe Morgan's clearance after 14 minutes found Abigail, who ran on towards goal, cheered on by the green army to fire the Whippets into a 3-0 lead.
This was cruel on Ashingdon who were getting back into the game and the visitors got their deserved reward with 2 goals in 5 minutes to make way for an exciting game at 3-2.
The crowd got going again and the terraces were in full chorus, led by Lee Sadler who was in fine voice - but the singing was thankfully interupted by another Abigail assault on goal, rounding the keeper and prodding home another goal to put the Whippets 4-2 up.
Ashingdon pressed and their lively forward line breached the AFC defence, leaving just the Cannon to beat - no easy task as Tom raced out and pulled of 2 fine, brave saves to keep the 2 goal cushion.
More changes were made with Dillon Bullman and Alphie Sambell, Billy Hughes and Reece Lopez making their debuts to warm applause around the arena.
The boys settled in well with Dillon looking lively, winning the midfield battles and playing neat football. Ashingdon at this point had thier best spell of the game with keeper Tom being called into action on a number of occasions including a fine goaline save, much to the appreciation of the fine Cannon Family following.
The visitors pressure paid off as their impressive strikeforce worked together well, running through and scoring to make it 4-3.
The game became end to end with Reece, Dillon and Callum pressing for another goal, but oin the counter attack, the Blues picked up the ball from defence and worked the ball up to the Whippets box and fire home an equaliser, to warm applause from all at Meadowbank Park. 4-4.
The whippets responded with Billy bravely tackling well in the middle, winning the ball and working well with Reece, who dragged his shot narrowly wide. Cameron Aley was introduced after 29 minutes and a huge roar erupted as he took to the pitch, drowned by his smallest available Whippets kit - this is what its all about.
Could this brilliant game get better - yes it did and in the latter stages the Whippets made changes with Harrison, Ethan F, George Fox, Samuel Jones and Joe Blance re introduced. The team worked hard, but had a lot of defending to do, and again Tom was at his best, coming out and denying the Blues scoring. The Whippets looked strong with Joe again linking up well with Harrison, who darted in and out of players, and then fired a ball accross goal and found its way into the net to sent the Meadowbank Followers into a frenzy.
Ashingdon again attacked and a 14 man scrummage in the whippets box resulted in a whippets casualty - Ethan Firminger emerging out with flattened fingers after going to ground during the event.
He was replaced by Abigail, who immediately linked up with George Fox, who cleverly ran through the Blues rearguard and tucked the ball into the back of the net for 6-4.
The end to end stuff continued up to the final whistle, and both teams left the field to warm applause in a highly entertaining game at Meadowbank Park.

The Wanderers were looking forward to their first game since late November, thanks to the efforts of Chris, Mike and Brad yesterday, to ensure the pitch was playable today following recent run of bad weather.
Today’s match sees the boys play Galleywood Youth Falcons who they had lost to 3-0 and 2-1 in their last 2 previous meetings. The squad were short of Harry Morris, Jamie Game and Ben Beaumont. Leaving no substitutes for today’s match.
Galleywood got the match underway and were looking to press the Wanderers back, but the defence and midfield were soon into their stride restricting the Falcons, it was clear to see the improved Wanderers did not want to lose this match and were soon forward themselves, Tom (Parks) was unlucky to flagged offside a couple of times, when clean through on goal, it was not long before Matthew and Charlie linked up to send Tom (Parks) through again only this time to stopped by some last minute defending by Falcons. The Wanderers midfield of Daniel, Charlie, Matthew, Nathan and Oliver were all working hard and linking up well with neat passing, they were backed up by a solid defence with Leon, Dominic, Lewis and Tom (Hadjuczek) all getting their tackles in and pushing the ball forward to the midfield. Andrew in the Wanderers goal did have al lot to do but what he did do, he done exceptionally well in particular his reactions off the line. The boys were unlucky not to go a goal up when the ball appeared to cross the line after hitting the post from a Tom (Parks) shot, but the referee was unable to award a goal as it was not clear enough from his angle.
HT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 0 Galleywood Youth Falcons
Following the half-time break, the Wanderers got the 2nd half underway and were immediately pushing forward, with Oliver in particular playing a number a neat passes that helped both Charlie and Tom (Parks) to create a chance that went just wide of the post. Tom (Hadjuczek) in defence was winning his tackles, Lewis and Dominic were working well together, and Leon was having another solid game. The Wanderers were now having the majority of the ball and playing neat football, Nathan was getting stuck to his tackles, Matthew and Oliver were continuing to work hard, further chances fell to both Charlie and Tom (Parks) who were unlucky not to score. Galleywood started to push forward again and the next attack sees them awarded a penalty for a foul in the area. Galleywood hit the post with the penalty and the Wanderers defence clear the ball, Daniel played a couple balls over the Galleywood defence allowing Tom (Parks) Charlie and Oliver to break the offside trap that the Galleywood defence had played well all day. Andrew was again called into action to stop Galleywood from scoring. The boys were beginning to tire after having not played for 7 weeks and the heavy ground taking its toll, but they all kept battling to the end to get a well deserved draw.

Following the recent unbeaten run of 3 games the Wanderers set to face league leaders Broomfield, the squad was short of Harry Morris, Matthew Olsen and Jamie Game, however Charlie Demmel was back and raring to go.
The Wanderers kicked off the first half and set about trying to attack Broomfield, but the boys seemed to be showing too much respect to Broomfield who were quickly into their game playing some stylish football that showed why they were the league leaders and unbeaten so far this season. The Wanderers midfield of Charlie, Daniel, Nathan, Ben and Oliver were struggling to get hold of the ball, and the defence of Tom (Hadjuczek), Dominic, Lewis and Leon were being pulled all over the place leaving gaps that were being exploited by Broomfield, Andrew in the Wanderers goal was forced into a couple saves, but halfway through the first half Broomfield scored their first goal, the Wanderers were making it hard for themselves and giving the ball away to easily, it was not long before Broomfield scored another two goals one well taken and one down to sloppy defending. Tom (Parks) playing upfront was finding it hard to get the ball and make an impact. The half-time whistle goes the boys come off and Chris and Rob try to get the boys to get back to basics.
HT: Broomfield Youth 3 – 0 AFC Woodham Wanderers
Broomfield get the second half underway and looked to carry on where they left off and the end of the first half, the Wanderers were beginning to hold their shape a little better, but Broomfield were playing the out to both wings making it difficult for the midfield to get the ball, Leon who had a tough first half was now playing much better and getting stuck into tackles and stopping the Broomfield attacks from the left hand side, Broomfield switched play the right and were immediately on the attack, they were awarded a free kick just outside the box which was initially saved well by Andrew, but the defence did not react quickly enough the clear the ball and Broomfield scored their forth goal, The Wanderers did not seem to have their normal fighting spirit today and were short of ideas to push forward, it was not long before Broomfield scored their fifth and sixth goals. The boys were not coping well and with substitutes they had to work hard to try and keep the score respectable. With the game almost over the Wanderers had a couple of chances through both Tom (Parks) and Daniel, the best falling to Tom who worked the ball out wide and struck the well with the keeper beaten the ball hits the post, that was the closet the boys were going to get today. The final whistle goes and brings the end to a disappointing match for the Wanderers.

1st Half: The Wanderers won the toss and decided to switch ends and kick downhill for the first half to take advantage of the slight slop in the pitch and the strong wind, with the sky looking overcast it looked like we were in a wet day. Springfield kicked off, the Wanderers were quickly into their stride and pushing forward and were soon putting the Springfield defence under pressure, some good football from the Wanderers midfield and attack soon saw the Wanderers take the lead through Nathan Reavell a good strike following neat passing from Matthew, Harry and Tom.
Goal! Springfield Youth 0 – 1 AFC Woodham Wanderers
The Wanderers were playing neat football, all the boys seemed to be gaining in confidence after the last 2 wins, a couple of corners in quick succession saw the Wanderers continue to push forward, a couple of misses from both Harry and Tom (Parks), left the Wanderers leading by just the single goal, this was soon increased when the ball is passed back from Springfield goal area to Daniel waiting outside the box to strike the ball well high into the net, giving the Springfield keeper no chance to score his first goal for the Wanderers.
Goal! Springfield Youth 0 – 2 AFC Woodham Wanderers
From the resulting restart Springfield were trying to break down the Wanderers defence of Lewis, Dominic, Tom (Hadjuczek) and Leon, but they were holding firm, the next period of play sees another couple of chances for the Wanderers the first to Tom (Parks) that goes just wide of the post, the next another long range effort from Daniel, this time it is saved by the keeper. Oliver and Matthew were getting into the game and supporting both Tom and Harry. The Wanderers looked up for the game the extra hour lay in helping, Meadow Youth Lions kicked off the game, from the outset it was clear that the game was going to be played at a fast pace, not giving the Wanderers time to settle, Meadow Youth created a number of early chances but the Wanderers defence stood firm. The Wanderers were trying to get into the game but were struggling to keep hold of the ball.
Meadow Youth were trying to play the ball over the top missing out the midfield and trying to hit the Wanderers on the break, having ridden out the opening 10 minutes the Wanderers were now beginning to get the ball Louie in defence was enjoying his time on the ball and passing the ball out, supported by Lewis, Dominic and Leon. The boys were looking forward to the cup tie against local rivals Focus Ferrers Terriers, all friendships were being put to one side for this game. The Wanderers had an early set back in the warm with Andrew not feeling well and unable to start the game, Nathan Reavell steps in as cover in goal. Only two squad players missing today Jamie Game and Shaun Tucker
Squad:
Goalkeeper: Nathan Reavell Defence: Leon Walker, Dominic Naylor, Lewis Jones, Louie Stone, Midfield: Charlie Demmel, Daniel Chettur (Capt) Matthew Olson, Tom Hadjuczek, Strikers: Tom Parks, Harry Morris. Subs: Oliver Firminger, Andrew Butcher, Ben Beaumont.
1st Half
The Terriers kick off looking to repeat the 7-0 pre season win, but the Wanderers have improved massively over the last few weeks and have been unlucky not to get results they deserve. The boys take a while to settle as the Terriers look to play their passing game, but after a sticky 10 minutes the Wanderers settle down with Dominic and Lewis working hard in defence supported by Leon and Louie, Nathan gets an early couple touches that helps to settle him down, passing movement from the Wanderers sees them push forward only to see the ball run through to their keeper.
A change for the Wanderers sees Andrew take to the field now feeling better, Nathan now comes out into midfield in place of Matthew, the Terriers were seeing al lot of the ball but the Wanderers defence was keeping them out. The next attack is by the Wanderers sees the ball fall to Charlie who has a shot from outside the box that goes just over. With half time approaching the Terriers launch an attack that see a shot on target that look to be going in, only for Andrew to somehow push the ball over the ball for a great save.
The midfield of Charlie, Daniel, Nathan and Tom (Hadjuczek) were have to try and close down the Terriers to stop them playing. The whistle goes for half-time.

Match Report 25th October 2009 2nd Half
2nd Half
The Wanderers kicked off the 2nd half looking to make amends for the 1st half, the boys were all making an effort to get tackles in and win the ball this was helping to them to keep possession and start to pass the ball around in defence Louie was enjoying his best game in a Wanderers shirt taking the ball and running forward taking on players. A change for the Wanderers sees Ben Beaumont come on for Tom (Hadjuczek) This was certainly better from the Wanderers who again were now creating chance after chance, Tom (Parks) sees a shot hit the post and roll along the line, Harry has a one on one with the keeper only to see the keeper save the shot. The Wanderers were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area which was taken by Louie only to be saved by Meadow Youths keeper. A number passes from the Wanderers midfield almost saw Tom and Harry straight through on goal, only to be waived offside.
Meadow Youth also had their chances in what was becoming an entertaining 2nd half, but it looked like the Wanderers who were going to score the next goal, Tom (Parks) hand a shot pushed onto the bar by the Meadow Youth keeper. However as earlier in the match it was Meadow Youth Lions who scored the next goal, somehow Meadow Youth seem to keep the ball and walk through the Wanderers defence to score their 4th goal of the game.
AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 4 Meadow Youth Lions
The Wanderers were still trying to attack and again were unlucky not to score a consolation goal which they deserved. Another change for the Wanderers sees Tom (Hadjuczek) replace Nathan, with the game coming to a close it was hard to see how the Wanderers had lost by this margin, Andrew in the Wanderers has not had a lot to do. The final whistle goes.
FT: AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 4 Meadow Youth Lions
Another defeat for the Wanderers by a scoreline that does not reflect the effort and chances created during the match, the boys were unlucky chances hit both the post and crossbar, also seeing the Meadow Youth keeper make a couple of good saves from one-on-ones. Hopefully we will start to find the net soon and turn these losses into wins which the boys deserve.

2nd Half
The Wanderers get the 2nd half underway and start to attack the Terriers, the Wanderers were winning a number of throw in they did in the 1st half and Daniel was making good ground with the throws helping to put them in attacking positions. A neat passage of play see the Wanderers work the ball through Tom (Parks) who beats the defender and takes a shot that beats Ross in the Terriers goal, but hits the post.
The boys were still trying to pass the ball around but the midfield were giving too much space to the Terriers allowing them the attack, this time beating the Wanderers defence to score the 1st goal of the game.
Goal! AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 1 Focus Ferrers Terriers
From the kick the Wanderers were trying to get back in the game and the next attack sees Harry free in the area to take a shot that is well saved. A Change for the Wanderers with Oliver coming on for Charlie, a positional change sees Oliver push up and Harry dropping back in midfield, Nathan was enjoying another good game was getting his tackles in. A change sees Matthew replacing Tom (Hadjuzcek) The Terriers keep trying to push forward and a cross sees Andrew try to punch it clear, but it falls to a Terriers player fro their 2nd goal.
Goal! AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 2 Focus Ferrers Terriers
A change for the Wanderers sees Ben changing places with Harry, the boys were beginning to tire, but still trying to win the ball, another good shot from the Terriers sees yet another fine save from Andrew in the Wanderers Goal, the final whistle goes bringing this local derby to an end.
Full Time: AFC Woodham Wanderers 0 – 2 Focus Ferrers Terriers
A hard game for the Wanderers, hopefully at some stage in the future the boys will get a lucky break, not only did the draw a team from a higher league, they then see a great chance to take lead come back off the post. The result from today’s game shows how far the Wanderers have come in a couple of months, whilst it was a defeat, it was by 2 goals, the last time they met they lost by 7 goals. Maybe next week the luck will change.

The Wanderers had an early opportunity to put last weeks missed chances behind again against Galleywood Youth Falcons, with Chris watching the Warriors first half, it was down to Rob to get the players warmed up and ready for the game. Harry Morris back this week, only absentee was Jamie Game
Squad:
Goalkeeper: Andrew Butcher Defence: Leon Walker, Dominic Naylor, Lewis Jones, Louie Stone, Midfield: Charlie Demmel, Daniel Chettur (Capt) Matthew Olson, Tom Hadjuczek, Strikers: Tom Parks, Harry Morris. Subs: Oliver Firminger, Nathen Reavell, Ben Beaumont.
1st Half
From the kick off the Wanderers meant business, and within minutes a through ball finds Tom (Parks) who forces a corner, Harry and Tom (Hadjuzcek) were linking up well, it was not long before another attempt for Tom was saved by the Falcons keeper. The defence were carrying on from last week and working hard as unit, Dominic and Lewis in the middle with Leon and Louie sticking to their task well. In midfield Daniel was having a battle with Galleywoods No 10 and sticking to him where ever he went on the pitch. The next wave of attacks saw the Wanderers create a number of clear cut chances the majority falling to Tom (Parks), all but for some unlucky finishing and a goalkeeper who was using his area well the Wanderers could and maybe should have been 5 or 6 up coming up to half-time. The great chance fell to Daniel who struck the ball cleanly from the edge of the area for what looked to be a certain goal only to see the keeper get his finger tips to it. Galleywood were having their chances but it was the Wanderers who had nearly all the possession in the 1st half, the whistle goes bringing an exciting 1st half to an end.
half-time: Galleywwod Youth Falcons 0 – 0 AFC Woodham Wanderers
The Wanderers got the 2nd half underway looking to continue were they left in the 1st, but you could the Witham were looking to get into the game, and it was the Wanderers who were having to work really hard, in defence Dominic was having a good game supported by both Tom (Hadjuczek) and Leon.

Match Report 4th October 2009 2nd Half
With the Warriors having finished their match against Gallow Utd, it was good to see so many of the Warriors turn up to support the Wanderers.
The Wanderers get the half underway Charlie and Matthew were working hard to get the ball forward, it was impressing to see the number of tackles going in, and the header being won from all ove the park. Good link up play in midfield between Tom (Hadjuzcek), Charlie sees the ball break Daniel who threads a pass through to Harry and then passes to Tom only to see it go wide, with the boys playing so well it was diffilcult for Chris to make changes, the next move sees the ball push forward to Tom (Parks) who this time puts the ball in the back of the net.
Goal! Galleywood Youth Falcons 0 – 1 AFC Woodham Wanderers
Galleywood now push forward looking for an equaliser, which comes from a good strike that loops over Andrew.
Goal! Galleywood Youth Falcons 1 – 1 AFC Woodham Wanderers
The Wanderers look disappointed but roll their sleeve up and push forward for another couple of chances falling to both Harry and Tom. Change Nathan on for Matthew, Nathan is giving the task of helping Daniel in midfield allowing Tom (Hadjuzcek) who was enjoying a good to push forward and link up with Harry and Tom (Parks), the Wanderers were still creating chances, but Galleywood were enjoying more of the ball and Dominic, Leon, Lewis and Louie were all having to work a bit harder, the next break by Galleywood sees them take advantage of an error and score a 2nd.
Goal! Galleywood Youth Falcons 2 – 1 AFC Woodham Wanderers
A further change for the Wanderers sees Oliver come on for the hard working Charlie, with the game now flowing from end to end either team could now score with only 10 minutes left a further change see Ben come on for Daniel, a good passing move sees the Wanderers have another couple of attempts on goal without success, as the game draws to an end the Wanderers look like losing a game they should have won. Final whistle goes/
Full Time: Galleywood Youth Falcons 2 – 1 AFC Woodham Wanderers
A great game of football for the Wanderers so many positives from the match, the main one being the team are creating chances, in fact over the last 2 matches they have created more chances than the whole of last season, whilst beginning to pass the ball around and play some good football. They are now getting stuck in more which is giving them a better chance to move forward and attack. Hopefully it will not be long before the boys get their first win.

Managers Comments:
At Last a win, and what a way to get it. Everyone throughout the team played their part and gained a thoroughly deserved win. 2 well taken goals saw us 2-0 up and from that point we looked capable of adding to that.
This was a real team performance and judging by the performances over the last few weeks, we knew it was coming. A great way to end a difficult season, but with changes around the corner – a bright future lies ahead for the Wanderers.
Well Done boys.

Great Notley Gunners 1 v 0 AFC Woodham Wanderers
Wanderers Push Gunners All the Way
Attendance: 65 ( Away 15)
Weather: Sunny
Pitch: Good
Referee:
Kick Off: 11:00am
With the Warriors game against Great Notley Gunners postponed due to a number of the Warriors players falling ill, the Wanderers stepped in to fill this fixture, and complete one of their two remaining matches in what has been a tough season, this was another match for the Wanderers to judge their improved performances following a 4-0 defeat in the first meeting between these two teams.
The Wanderers lined up with a near full squad but the exception of Leon Walker, Goalkeeper: Andrew Butcher Defence: Ben Grimwood, Dominic Naylor, & Harry Morris Midfield: Tom Hadjuczek, Charlie Demmel & Daniel Chettur Forward: Oliver Firminger (Capt) & Ben Beaumont Subs: None Available.
Great Notley Gunners won the toss and decided to change ends, Great Notley Gunners get the game underway and immediately start to pass the ball in midfield, some solid defending by Dominic and Harry help to stop Notley in their tracks, Notley continue to push forward, but can not get past the midfield of Daniel, Charlie and Tom, with Oliver and Ben looking to break though the midfield.
The next period of play sees both teams trying to play football, but the Wanderers were now pinned back in their own half, the ball breaks to a Notley player, and some sloppy defending allows Notley through to score their first goal.
Goal! Great Notley Gunners 1 – 0 AFC Woodham Wanderers
From the resulting kick the ball is passed back to Daniel in midfield who finds Tom with a neat pass, the Wanderers were continuing to press forward with some impressive closing down of Notley players by Ben, with the Wanderers working hard for each other, the Notley players were playing some neat football, but were unable to break down the solid defence of Harry, Dominic and Ben who was now getting into the game with some timely tackles to break down the Notley attacks. However it looked like the Wanderers jinx had struck again with Charlie feeling unwell and having to leave the pitch to recover, after a few minutes Charlie re-enters the game. The half time whistle goes and the Wanderers players walk off for a well deserved break.
HT: Great Notley Gunners 1 – 0 AFC Woodham Wanderers
With no substitutes available today, Chris and Rob gave praise for a hard working first half, and asked them to keep up the good work, the boys take to the pitch for the 2nd half.
Match Report 19th April 2009 2nd Half
Great Notley Gunners made a change to their replacing their keeper, the Wanderers get the game underway, and start to push forward from the off, with neat passing between Tom and Ben, supported by both Charlie and Daniel & Oliver. Great Notley were now trying the push the Wanderers back and all but for some last ditch defending and good goal keeping by Andrew they might have scored another goal.
Chris decided it time to change things around dropping Charlie back into defence and pushing Harry forward and moving both Daniel and Tom up the pitch, this sees the Wanderers push forward looking for the equaliser, but they had to be careful that they did not leave their defence exposed to a skillfull Notley side.
The game started to open up with chances falling to both teams. The Wanderers pushing receive a free kick for a foul on Ben G, the freekick taken by Daniel is lifted over the top and drops into the penalty area, all but for some alert defending by Notley may have seen the Wanderers have a strike on goal, Notley launched their own attack and but for some brave goalkeeping by Andrew, Notley may have scored a 2nd.
The next attack sees the Wanderers push forward a good pass from Oliver sends Harry free who takes to ball into the area and crosses for Tom who strikes the ball well but it is saved brilliantly by the Notley keeper. The Wanderers are continuing to push forward and deserve to be level.
The next Notley attack sees the defence under pressure but they work well together to stop any further goals being conceded, and set out to attack the Notley goal, two consecutive corners taken by Daniel give the Wanderers hope, and end up extremely unlucky not to score and level this match. The final whistle goes and Notley get the result.
FT: Great Notley Gunners 1 – 0 AFC Woodham Wanderers
The Wanderers can look back on this game as possibly their best performance of the season, down to the bare bones, and players feeling unwell, the commitment shown by the players deserved something more from this game, maybe this is going to help them develop as a team, and the introduction and new equally committed players could turn this group of players into a good team.
MoM:
Dominic Naylor: Solid, quick defending, thwarting all of the Gunners’ advances.
Managers Comments:
Every week we just get better and better. This was a real battle at both ends of the pitch. We knew Notley were a team who don’t score many goals and with that said we were always within sniffing distance if we defended well. We did just that and at half time it was a matter of when I would change things around and go all out attack.
The start of the second half we again defended well but were under pressure. After steadying the ship we opted to go for all with 15 minutes left and what a game you guys made of it as we totally controlled the last 15 minutes with wave after wave of attacks and shots on goal. Everyone of you showed total commitment as you have all season and I was left wondering after the game if we should have gone all out after half time.
Well done boys – our first win is not far away now!
Chris
